Passenger Service:

Tanzania Railways Corporation operates passenger services along the Central Railway Line, from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma and Mwanza; and also along the Kaliua-Mpanda and Manyoni-Singida Branch Lines.There are four classes of travel:

Freight Service:


Freight traffic is the main stay of TRC's business. It includes:

(i) Domestic Traffic - Constitutes about 60% of total traffic and covers movement of goods withinTanzania including exports and imports; and
(ii) Transit Traffic - Constitutes about 40% of total traffic and covers movement of goods from/to neighbouring land-locked countries of Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.


Handled Freight includes:

 

  • Containerised Cargo
  • General Dry Cargo
  • Petroleum products
  • Livestock; and
  • to a very limited extent: Refrigerated Cargo.
