General Information

Manyoni is at the junction of the Central Railway Line and the Manyoni-Singida Branch Line. It is also on the highway from Dar es Salaam to Mwanza. More prominently, the town is on the escarpment of the great Rift Valley. The population of Manyoni town at year 2002 is 193,870 people.

Railway History and Operations

Construction of the Central Railway Line reached Manyoni station in 1912, during German Rule in Tanganyika (1883-1919). Manyoni has since grown into a small town hosting the administrative headquarters of Manyoni District in Singida Region. It was twice the starting point for the Construction of the Manyoni-Singida Branch Line; first in1932 and later in 1985. The railway distance from Dar es Salaam to Manyoni is 595.44 km.
