General Information
Kidatu is at the junction
of the Kilosa-Kidatu Branch Line and the Tanzania
Zambia Railway Line (TAZARA). The two Lines do not interlink, due to a
difference in gauges. However, there is a transshipment facility at Kidatu.
Railways History and Operations
Construction of Kilosa-Kidatu Branch Line started at Kilosa in the year
1958 and reached Kidatu in 1965. The Branch line from Kilosa to Kidatu
is 107.69 Km long; and the railway distance from Dar Es Salaam to Kidatu
(via Kilosa) is 397 km. Main features at Kidatu include:
- Kidatu Station and transshipment facilities
for freight interchange between Tazara and TRC Systems.
