Dar es Salaam Railway Station
General
Information
Dar es Salaam City is located on the coast of the Indian Ocean. It is
the largest city and main commercial center of Tanzania. It is also the
main gateway for all imports and exports to/from Tanzania and her landlocked
neighbours of Zambia, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Democratic Republic of
Congo and Malawi. The estimated population of Dar es Salaam at year 2002
is about 3million people.

Railway
History and Operations
Construction of the Central Railway Line started at Dar es Salaam in the
year 1905, during the German Rule of Tanganyika (1883 1919). Dar
es salaam has since grown into the main administrative and operations
hub of Tanzania Railways Corporation, handling about 80% of the railway
business. Main features include:
